No birds appeared to be blown into the Chesapeake Bay mouth region by the
morning's passage of KYLE. This is unsurprising, inasmuch as the storm (like
GUSTAV, recently) passed off to our east after crossing the Outer Banks.
Only storms that track inland appear to send seabirds our way. Brian
Patteson noted Cory's Shearwaters and Northern Gannets (and many Pectoral
Sandpipers) yesterday at Cape Point, but it's important to remember that
Cory's have been foraging only 4-5 miles off this spot for the past week, so
to see a few inshore on strong southeasterly wind is quite normal in October,
as Rich Rowlett found back in the early 1970s.
