Hi All,
Living in the Eastern Panhandle puts me in proximity to great birding
opportunities
in WV, VA, and MD. I took advantage of the nice weather this weekend and birded
Sleepy Creek WMA (Berkeley county, WV), Thompson WMA ( NW Fauquier county, VA)
and the C&O canal (MD) between mile markers 70 and 68. Highlights were 13
Bobolinks
sitting on fences along Leeds Manor rd (rt 688) off of Rt 17 (Fauquier cty)
--thanks Jon Little --,
Chestnut-sided Warbler in Sleepy Creek WMA, and 2 Prothonotary Warblers around
mile
marker 68 (C&O canal). Saw my first Yellow-billed Cuckoo and Eastern Wood Pewee
of the
year (Thompson WMA).
I'm going to Crane Creek/Magee Marsh (Ohio) this coming weekend so I can lose
count
on Warblers. The following weekend will find me at the Kirtland's Warbler
festival in Michigan.
Tallied 80 species for the weekend, 20 of which were Warblers which are listed
below:
SC = Sleepy Creek WMA, TH = Thompson WMA, C&O = C&O Canal towpath
Blue-winged (TH)
Northern Parula (SC,TH)
