Hello VAbirders,
What a difference a day makes! Yesterday the Pileateds were one big happy
family. Today, mom and pop were starting to peck at and chase off the
young ones. And omigosh, Junior was eating at the suet feeder like at old
pro! We can't call him Klutzy, Jr. anymore, because he's showing real
talent. We dubbed his father Klutzy because it took him close to a year to
learn to eat suet from the feeder without crashing into it. Junior must
take after his mother, who has always been deft at flying and feeding from
feeders.
We had a big surprise in the garden today. For the first time ever we had
a N. Parula in June. We only get them during Spring or Fall migration, so
today's was a bonus!
