Thank you to everyone to replied to my question about the CBBT eider
identification. I would really like to look at the bird again. Hopefully
it will be there this weekend.
Otherwise, I don't get to bird much during the week. But, there has been a
flock of Hooded Mergansers (~20) sitting in a pond in a residential area
near the intersection of Virginia Beach Blvd with Military Highway. To
reach the pond, go west on Virginia Beach Blvd from the intersection with
Military Highway. Turn left at the first stoplight (Round Bay Road).
Follow Round Bay Road until it ends (at a T-intersection) and turn left.
Almost immediately, there is a pond on the left and a view of a creek on the
right. One can pull over and park, but be careful. Traffic tends to move
quickly here. Great Egrets and Mallards are usually also here. I saw a
male scaup one day too. Not unusual birds, but I like to see the mergs.
The pond is less than a mile from Virginia Beach Blvd.
