Hello all
Yesterday 4 hardy souls braved the cold 24 degrees with a ?? wind chill . We
ended up with 45 species of birds with the high lights being the following .
Loggerhead Shrike at the usual spot on Cattleman Rd. near Livick Rd & several
Meadowlark . Hooded Merganser , Black Duck & Coots at Smith's . Pied Billed
Grebe , Ring -necked Duck at the Boy Scout Camp . Also with Towhee & Fox
Sparrow . At the Augusta Wetlands we had highlights of Fox & Swamp Sparrow ,
Red Shouldered & Red tailed Hawks , Golden - crowned Kinglet & Raven . After
the trip was over I went home & picked up Pat & we went out in search of any
waterfowl or small land birds that the storm dropped in . During the field trip
in swoope we had record numbers of Black birds & Robins . Even with the low
numbers of Waterfowl the other birds made it up . Below is a list of spring
records for our areas in Augusta County .
Golden - crowned Kinglet -- 10 Augusta Wetlands
Am. Robin -- 600+ Swoope & 197 thru out Aug . Co. -- 797 +
Red - winged Blackbird -- 350+ Swoope & 400+ thru out Aug. Co. -- 750 +
Brown - headed Cowbird -- 250 + in Swoope & 215 thru out Aug. Co. -- 465+
Rough - winged Swallow -- 1 on Rt. 887 Vance Rd. in Stuarts Draft -- early

Not a bad day of birding but cold as blue blazes .
