Yesterday morning's very cool temperatures-- it was 49 degrees at our
home in St Louis VA just west of Middleburg, Loudoun County at 5:30 AM
was great for running and for summer doldrums birding. This "running"
count covered parts of Wellbourne Rd, Willisville Rd, Bloomfield Rd and
Unison Road in southwestern
Loudoun.
Location: St Louis Virginia Birding Loop
Observation date: 8/13/06
Notes: This count was done while running over a 3.5 hour period
noting birds with a digital recorder. Most birds listed were males
singing so numbers are overall very low. High goldfinch count due to
birds feeding on ripening chickory seed alongside most of the rural
roads covered. Barn swallows counted were large groups perched on power
lines. Singing grasshopper sparrows were perhaps the highlight.
