I thought hunting was a banned topic on va-bird, LOL.  But, since this
subject was posted, I would like to add a little perspective.  I'm
retired
from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  For twelve of my more than
thirty years of Federal Service I served as a National Wildlife Refuge Manager
in
Missouri, California, New Mexico, Michigan, Texas, and Nevada.  All of
those States allowed hunting on Sunday.  In no case did I observe any
significant conflict with Christmas Bird Counts or birding in general, either
on or
off the refuges.  Lawful hunters, particularly those hunters that work
a
normal forty hour week deserve the right to hunt on Sunday if they choose to
do so.  As Suzanne said only 10 States retain this relict from
Colonial
days.  Times have changed.
