Spring is arriving in Lexington and Rockbridge Co. Yesterday, my
ornithology class spotted a few new birds for the area: Brown-headed
Cowbirds, Chipping Sparrows, Osprey (along South River), and Tree Swallows.
In addition, the Juncos and White-throats are still here, but as Clair M.
noted so are the Grackles. We had a good-sized flock of Fox Sparrows around
a week or so ago along with several Purple Finches. Only Pine Warblers have
shown up so far, but the others can't be far off.
