A late reporting of a few highlights seen in the sector I helped cover on
December 20th in Amherst County near the James River. Mike Boatwright had
four Red Crossbills (only the fifth time on our count, the last time in
1981) and a House Wren (11th time on the count, last time in 1993). Adam
D'Onofrio and I had a first winter Common Goldeneye (9th time on the count,
last in 1991), as well as one American Woodcock.
No Red-breasted Nuthatches or Pine Siskins were recorded on the count,
although the later is present outside the count circle. One Selaphorus
hummingbird has been in Lynchburg since December.
