My neighbor had a visiting birder who had never seen a Snowy Owl, so this
morning at 8am we packed the scope and headed to Dulles Airport. There was a
mix of light rain/snow at the time, and I wasn't optimistic. To our great joy,
the owl was visible from the street before we ever got up to the third floor of
the parking structure. It was sitting on the taller light post directly behind
the Post Office. We left around 8:30am, and I returned again at 10am with
another friend who had not been able to view the owl up close. We had tried a
couple of times with no luck, but it was worth the wait. The owl was still
there. It had just moved to an adjacent post, still directly behind the Post
Office. It was there, preening, when we left at 10:30am.
