Since Sunday the Maryland/DC birding listserve has been reporting sightings of
a snowy owl moving between National Airport, Hain's Point in DC and Bolling AFB
in DC in the evening. The owl was originally found by Frank Hawkins.
This evening between 4:40 and 5:00 pm I was able to see the owl at National
Airport from Gravely Point. The best views were while standing along the bike
path directly in front of the main runway. The owl was on the terminal side of
the runway, most of the time in the vicinity of sign #3. While I was watching
the owl caught a rodent, that was fairly large and took a little while to
swallow but eventually did get it down.
