VA Birders,
This morning my wife, Lynda, and I went to take another look and to
photograph the Red-necked Grebes on a pond in Russell County. As we were
walking toward the pond I saw the head and neck of a white bird peeking over
a knoll. I decided it was a domestic duck, but as we walked closer it took
to the air. It was then the black wing feathers became visible and I
realized we were seeing a Snow Goose. The goose left the area, and we didn't
see it again.
The 5 Red-necked Grebes were still there on the pond along with Gadwalls,
Wigeon, a Coot and Mallards.
The Northern Shovelers that had been seen on Stuart's pond were gone, but
two Black Ducks and two Ring-necked Ducks were there with several Canada
Geese.
