Stopped by Sleepy Hole Park in Suffolk today. The park borders the
Nansemond River. A large raft of 160 RUDDY DUCK grabbed my attention.
160 is likely a very conservative count . The bulk (90+) of them in
close to shore with the remainder spread out across the river. A couple
dozen BUFFLEHEAD and a scattering of COMMON MERGANSER were also bobbing
around. The park pond yielded a single pair of HOOFDED MERGANSER and 6
MALLARD
Directions to the Park can be found at

The park is part of the Suffolk Loop of the Virginia Birding & Wildlife
Trail **Please note that Rt 125/Kings Hwy Bridge in Suffolk is
closed**
