Hello, birders.
Birded the Bridle Trail on Sunday. The wind wasn't as strong as they forecasted
it to be, esp. in the early morning when it was only a light breeze. However,
there weren't many migrants about.
-No. Harrier, 1, soaring over the field, seen twice. Backlit so I couldn't
determine the sex of the bird.
-E.W. Pewee, common
-R.e. Vireo
-B. Jay, migrants, common
-House Wren
-Gr. Catbird
-Cedar Waxwing, one small flock
-hardly any warblers, Magnolia, B.T. Green, Bay-breasted
-Sc. Tanager
-5 sparrow sp., Towhee, Chipping, Savannah (6), Song
-Rose-br. Grosbeak
-I. Bunting
One possible Bobwhite. I heard the call once or twice. The habitat was right.
It could have been coming from the Starlings perched in the area but I think it
was a Bobwhite instead. A scarce bird here.
Interestingly, one section of the woods, a hillside with oak and hickory and
blueberry, was mostly devoid of oak leaves from an abundance of walking sticks.
There must have been thousands of these insects here. I saw this happen in the
same spot a couple of years ago. I found hardly any birds here, despite this
insect abundance.
