The Short Earred owl at Bull Run Post Office Road made
an appearance again last night. He was a bit later
than reported earlier on the list serve as the bright
skies gave us more daylight and a later dusk.
We saw him around 5:45 p.m. through about 6:10 when it
really started to get dark. When we left him, he was
perched on a bare tree branch a good distance away,
but not too far off for excellent scope looks.
Other reports showed him making appearances in the
same location 2 out of three times during the week.
A turkey (or what looked like a turkey) was flushed
out of the Short Earred owl's field.
As previously noted, this is private property and we
were viewing the owl from the edge of the road where
there was a nice opening in the hedgerow. Do not
enter private property unless you have permission from
the owner. I'll also note that there are firearms in
use posted on the "Do Not Trespass" signs. We heard
no gun shots while we were there.
