VA Birders,

Jon & BJ Little, Bev Leeuwenberg and myself birded in Shenandoah County today. Despite intermittent rain and a hail storm we managed to find 19 species of warbler, the best being a singing NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in Edinburg along Stony Creek. Others included BAY-BREASTED, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLACKPOLL, KENTUCKY, WORM-EATING, MAGNOLIA, and HOODED. The best bird of the day however, was a subadult MISSISSIPPI KITE along Back Road around 9:00am. It soared above us for several minutes catching bugs and giving us great looks. We managed 86 species in spite of the weather and had a great time doing it! A complete list follows.
