We have an interesting situation with a Selasphorus hummingbird here in
Lynchburg. On 6 December 2001, a Selasphorus appeared at a hummingbird
feeder at the home of Wanda Pleasants. The bird remained through the
winter, was observed by many members of the local Bird Club, seen on the
Lynchburg Winter Bird Count, and was last observed on 3 April 2002.
Today, 20 November 2006, Wanda Pleasants observed a Selasphorus
hummingbird at her feeder. Did the 2001-2002 bird reappear or did
another bird just happen to show up? The house is in a typical suburban
neighborhood.
In addition, we have another Selasphorus hummingbird nearby, in Amherst
County. This bird has been visiting a feeder (seen everyday) since 22
October.
