I have just come from the home of a neighbor, here in James City County,
where they again have a Selasphorus hummingbird coming to their feeder. They
hosted one in 2001 that was banded as an immature female Rufous in January
2002.
The following fall, the same bird was re-captured at their feeder. In fall
2003, a Selasphorus, quite likely the same bird, returned on September 29th and
stayed until early April, but was not captured. The bird this year, which the
hosts said arrived last month and is banded, may well be same one. If so, that
would be 4 years in a row! That would be unprecedented, as far as I know.
