Birders,
A few weeks ago (before the foliage was thick) Tom and I went out to Redwing
Park and were able to locate a Screech Owl on the "white trail" at Redwing
Park. Today was the first day we went back to try to locate the owl again.
Yup....still there...same tree...only more hidden in the leaves! What a treat!
After watching the little Screech for awhile we went into Dam Neck Navy Base
and birded down by the Navy Lodge. It is a favorite area for us. The Osprey
could be seen in their nest on Birdneck Lake. A Prothonatory Warbler came in
real close and preened on a branch after bathing. Also close by were: Orchard
Orioles, Summer Tanagers, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow Warblers and a bizzilion
Catbirds. As we first entered the area and made out right turn to head down
towards the Navy Lodge and I was rolling down the window to listen...I thought
I
heard a Waterthrush (the one whose song is very similar to the Swainson's).
There was no where to pull off so I walked back up the road from the Navy Lodge
area. I heard the song one other time but was never able to locate the bird.
Darn!
