My husband and I spotted the Sandhill Crane Friday evening (7/25) around
7:30 pm in the grassy field to the right of Smith's pond. It then flew to
one of the pieces of land projecting into the pond. It remained until we
left at dark.
The directions Matt Orsie gave in the last posting were excellent. That's
exactly how we exited, after spending much time trying to follow earlier,
more complicated directions.
One suggestion for those who wish to see the bird in the evening. Bring a
scope! The distance from the road to the pond and the fading evening light
make it quite difficult to see any detail with only a pair of binoculars.
It was certainly worth the trip... even my non-birding but good-sport
husband agreed.
