Greetings all,
After stopping at the "lake" at Dulles where we saw HOODED MERGANSERS, RING
NECKED DUCKS, one BELTED KINGFISHER, RING BILLED GULLS, and CANADA GEESE, we
continued on to the parking garage from which people have been seeing the Snowy
Owl.
We got to the parking garage around 8:40 A.M. Even before we got to the third
deck, we could see the SNOWY OWL perched on one of the light posts just beyond
the Post Office facility. It was quite close, but, just as I was about to hook
the camera up to the scope, it flew.
For those who go out there looking for the owl, these are additional places to
check.
We watched the owl fly and perch on top of one of the "fins" of a people mover.
This device has a flat top. From the SW corner of the third level of the
parking deck, we had a good view of the owl. Gate B51 was behind it.
A bit later it flew again and landed on the ground beside a runway marker The
markings were A1 on the left of the sign and B with arrows pointing left and
right. We could see this spot from the SW corner of the third level of the
parking garage. Look between the Post Office facility and an unmarked structure
to the left of the parking lot for the post office. The sign is just beyond the
fence.
The owl was on the ground and was still there when we left around 9:35. We
think the owl might have regurgitated a pellet while there.
This was our fourth visit to see the owl. The weather was cold but not windy.
With the cloud cover, the owl showed up really well. Good luck to those going
out to find it.
