VA Birders,
This morning a male Rusty Blackbird was poking among the leaf litter under
the shrubs in the yard. This is a rather rare bird for Buchanan County. I
have only encountered them here 4 or 5 times before.
Yesterday a Brown Thrasher made an appearance in the yard. These birds nest
here in summer, but in the 31 years I have lived on Compton Mountain at 2400
feet elevation I have never had one here in winter. They can sometimes be
found in lower parts of the county in winter. One showed up for the Breaks
CBC on Dec. 20th this year.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
