The female Rufous Hummingbird is still attending all 4 feeders here in Cape
Charles (at 9 Randolph Avenue); anyone is welcome to drop by and watch from
the yard. The bird fed heavily for most of the morning (*mornings seem to be
best). Along Old Cape Charles Road (take a left at the Rittenhouse Motor
Lodge along Rte 13, then left at the cemetery, and drive about a mile), look
for feeders and fruit in the trees on the right side of the road; a male
Baltimore Oriole is still around, a nice bit of color for the season. Tom
Saunders found several Redhead (locally very rare at any season) on ponds at
the BayCreek golf course over the past week. These have probably frozen over
by now, as is the harbor at Cape Charles. A great influx of blackbirds,
including Common Grackles (with a very large percentage being Bronzed
Grackles, from the west), is apparent in just a spin around the countryside
here.
