This afternoon up to 5 Rough-legged Hawks were visible from along RT 661
Montressor Road, W from Route 15 and S of Lucketts. They included a adult male
dark phase ,adult male light phase , adult female light phase and two
immature light phase. Also observed 8 Red-tails, 3 Northern Harrier and 2
American
Kestrel . No Short-eared Owls despite staying until 5-50 pm.
At the beef cattle farm along Rt 656 ,Hibler Rd ( E of Route 15 ) , over
100 White-crowned Sparrows were feeding in the cattle yard , along with 15
horned Larks and many White-throated and Song Sparrows.
ps if you should go looking for the Rough-legged Hawks along Montressor
Road please make sure that you do not block traffic. School buses use this
narrow gravel road and some of the residents apparently have complained about
birders vehicles blocking access.
