Two of us began our Monday morning by observing a male Rose-Breasted
Grosbeak in our Springfield backyard! This is the first time we have seen
this bird in 20-plus years of living in our house. The bird spent at least
15 minutes gleaning food from a maple tree and a privet "tree," occasionally
singing and giving his squeak call. Now that's the way to begin a new
week.<g>
The bird flew a short distance to the west. He appeared to be gradually
moving from tree to tree through the suburban neighborhood.
