Hello Everyone,
This morning at Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary in Arlington County, there was
a 2nd winter LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL floating on the water among a few Great
Black-backeds and many Ring-billeds. Also, there was a flyover of 3 NORTHERN
PINTAILS. Both species are new for me for Arlington County.
Also of note were 3 COMMON GRACKLES, a LESSER SCAUP with the many Mallards, and
an attractive-looking "mutt" duck - all chocolate brown with a white
(irregular) patch on the breast below the throat, smaller than the mallards
with a more triangular bull than most dabblers. No idea what mixed to make
this one!
Jay Keller,
Arlington
