It was gray and chilly (low 50's) this morning when I paid one of my
all-too-rare visits to Riverbend County Park and Great Falls National Park
in Fairfax County.
I did not see another birder all morning, and very few other people except
for rock climbers and school groups at Great Falls.
Birding was quite slow, but had a few highlights:
COMMON MERGANSER 2 hens and a drake in the river off Riverbend
CHIMNEY SWIFT 100+ over and above the falls
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER 3 heard in the woods
GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER 2
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO 2
INDIGO BUNTING 3
Warblers at Riverbend: N. PARULA 3, YELLOW-RUMPED 10, YELLOW-THROATED 2,
BLACK-AND-WHITE 2, AM. REDSTART 1, PROTHONOTARY 1, OVENBIRD 4
Warblers at Great Falls Park: N. WATERTHRUSH 1, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH 2,
HOODED 1
Good Birding.
