Before attending the ANS geology walk at Great Falls this morning, I spent
an hour at the meadow at Riverbend. It was hard to leave. There were huge
numbers of white-throats and yellow-rumps, and lots of other stuff. Rough
numbers of migrants:
Winter wren 2
Creeper 1
RC kinglet 3
GC kinglet 1
Waxwings 13
BH vireo 1
Yellow-rump 50?
Palm (eastern) 8
Yellowthroat 2
Song sparrow 15
Swamp sparrow 5
Lincolns sparrow 2
White-throated sparrow 75? Impossible to count, waves moving through the
brambles
Junco 1
Field sparrow 3
Towhee 4
During the geology walk (which was very interesting), I tried to be good and
pay attention, but I did see:
Black vulture 20
Sharpie 1
Falcon sp. 1
Swift 3
Sapsucker 1
Phoebe 2
And a smattering of yellow-rumps, kinglets, waxwings, and white-throats. In
addition, there were a pair of diving ducks above the falls, very far away,
but possibly first winter male ring-necked.
