VA Birders,
I was surprised to find a pair of Ring-necked Ducks on one of the
drainage ponds at the Rt. 28/Rt. 234 bypass interchange in Manassas this
afternoon. They weren't there last weekend so I can only assume they
were put down by the rain last night. I have seen Ring-necked Ducks
hang around into June at Airlie but they were always groups of males. I
assumed they weren't in a hurry to head north since they had no mate.
I've never seen a pair hang around into June. Even a rainy day in June
can turn up something interesting for a birder!
