VA BIRDers,
It would seem that the last cold front brought forth a few good birds in our
area! Late yesterday afternoon, Harry Gurkin and I observed a Red-throated
Loon on Belmont Bay. Viewing was from the Mason Neck State Park overlook near
the visitors center. The bird appeared to be transitioning from juvenile to
first winter plumage.
Nearby, an adult female Black Scoter hung out with a few hundred Ruddy Ducks.
There were about 5000 ducks on the bay.
I wonder what else may be around?
