While birding in Va. Beach today my wife and I came across a large flock of
redpolls along the Lynnhaven River. We parked at Loch Haven Park and walked
the dredge spoil site located adjacent to the park. This is just south of
Route 60(Shore Drive) before the Lynnhaven Inlet bridge from the west. We
timed it for low tide because of the extensive mud flats which were also very
busy. The redpolls were feeding on the seaside goldenrod which is common on
the site. There were also Savannahs, Seasides, and Song sparrows.
