For the record, two Red-necked Grebes were still lingering on the Potomac
River at Riverbend Park (Fairfax Cty) as of Monday morning, April 21.
Also I was happy to hear several Carolina Wrens again singing in the park
after a hiatus of three weeks at both Riverbend and Great Falls Parks. Some,
like me, thought the harsh winter might have been too much for them. Another
birder on the Sunday Great Falls walk indicated that in her experience, the
wrens just fall silent for a few weeks in early spring. Anyone else care to
opine?
