VA BIRDers,
I recently got a call from John Bazuin who tells of spotting a Red-necked
Grebe near Dyke 3 at Lake Anna today. The bird shared the channel with
Common Loon and Horned Grebe. This location can be gotten to from Rt 522.
From Rt 522 turn onto Rt 208 (I believe for those going northbound this is a
right hand turn) and travel to Rt 652, turning right on to it. Then travel
to 622 and turn left onto it. Go to the Dyke 3 area (east side, a crossing
of the mouth of Rock Creek) which is popular for fishermen due to the
overflow water flow from the power plant. This area is also described in D.
Johnston's "A Birder's Guide To Virginia" (ABA series) which includes a map.
Although this location does not require a scope, the visitor should consider
using a scope for this area.
