Saturday afternoon I hiked up Stony Man Mountain in Shenandoah NP with the
family and we say at least 20 COMMON RAVENS. They was a large flock croaking
and calling. One Raven had a food item and the other Ravens would dive and
try to take it. When he finally let go another Raven caught it mid-air.
On the way home heading east on Route 3 there was massive flock of at least
5000 Grackles heading west over Lake of the Woods. This morning at 7:20 I
saw the same flocks at the intersection of Routes 20 and 3, in Orange
County. There were at least 5000 Grackles and 500 Starlings, heading east.
Later in the morning George Harris and I found White-crowned Sparrows in
there usual spot on Marquis Road, route 669, south of Lahore, on the
Orange/Louisa county line. On Lake Anna, near the route 522 bridge we found
HORNED GREBE, and COMMON LOONS.
Happy New Year!
