Hello all
Hoping to be on the Eastern Shore this weekend which did not happen . Two
night shifts at work put a stop on that trip ( have trouble sleeping in the
day time ) but I settled for birding in the wet weather yesterday & I came
up with some good birds with good numbers . Below is a list of the
waterfowl that I found yesterday in & around Augusta County . With most of
the ponds frozen it made for a " duck shoot " in what little open water
there was . The trick to this is not to spook the birds & get a good count
of what is there .
Greater White - fronted Goose -- 2 Fishersville Quarry
Cackling Goose -- 8 to 10 Fishersville Quarry
Canada Goose -- 1000 + thru out the County
Trumpeter Swan -- 4 on private lake -- Female tagged, banded in Lasalle
Park Burlington Ontario Canada & the one on Spottswood Rd ( wondering if
this one is a cross between a Tundra X Trumpeter ) -- 5 peak count
Tundra Swan -- 20 a fly over heading south near Cheese Shop Stuarts Draft
-- peak count
Gadwall -- 163 -- peak count -- They were every where there was open water
.
Am . Wigeon -- 1
Am . Black Duck -- 6
Mallard -- 39
Northern Shoveler -- 8
Green - winged Teal -- 10
Canvasback --8
Redhead -- 35 peak count
Ring -necked Duck -- 49
