Fellow Virginia Birders,
I am planning an overnight trip to Shenandoah NP this weekend (if I can get
accommodations at Skyland).
The main purpose of my trip is to look for a Blue-headed Vireo, which I
understand nest in the park. I am going to check out the Limberlost Trail
because they have been seen there.
If any of you have suggestions for other trails or overlooks where this bird
has been known to nest, I would be grateful for that information. I don't
plan to drive all the way down Skyline Drive--probably just the first 50 or
60 miles.
Another bird I would like to see is a Summer Tanager. I have been told I
need to go south of the Arlington, VA for my best chance to see one. I
could go east when I leave the park and look for a Summer Tanager on my way
back to northern Virginia. I am totally unfamiliar with birding areas
farther south of Arlington than Pr. Wm. County. If anyone has a suggestion
for a good place to stop to look for Summer Tanagers on my way back, that
would be great too.
Please respond to my e-mail address below. Thank you.
