This is my third time looking for this bird sense David Clark Saw it on
Aug 5.
With having the info from David and seeing bird standing with least and
semi and getting a good long look made id a lot easier. Red was starting
to fade out like Plate 192 A In the Shorebirds ID guide by Peter
Hayman, John Marchant, and Tony Prater. still no white on upper breast
or over eye head still rufous. lower breast staring to show more brown
spotting over white. it helped to have him Side by side with least in
almost breading plumage. least has white eye strip and yellow legs.
Having both in scope at same time you could also see slit smaller size.
All four of us had it in scoop long enough to compare it in three
different book at a distance of about 30 ft. He was not in one of the
impoundment
When you leave Craney office He was on mud flat between road and sand
bar
I would say maybe 600 yards from where marsh grass stops behind office.
There is a drain pipe that empties in to James river right were it was.
We lost site of it when it flew over our head, and over upper road that
impoundment was dry so I don't know where it went. Tired to relocate it
but when temperature got to 106 it was hard to see from my van with both
ACs on high.
