The first purple finch showed up at our feeder above Bluemont on the
mountain today (Rt. 601). It was a beautiful male - no females in sight, but we
were
only able to spend a few hours there today. They did not breed on this low
ridge, but passed through in the spring when we had 2 males and several females.
