post to VA-Birds. Have tried a couple of times over the past several hours...
VA-Birders, As an addendum to Marc Ribaudo's earlier post, I wanted to
share a few more sightings from today. I birded the creek at Possum Point
before meeting up with Marc and Larry, and visited Dyke Marsh briefly
afterward. My morning began with a COMMON LOON flyover at the Springfield
Interchange along I-95. Later at Possum Point, I noted the lone TUNDRA SWAN
is still present. I haven't seen this bird fly or even flex its wings, so it
may be injured in some way. Nearby, two WILSON'S SNIPE foraged, a GRAY
CATBIRD called out, two PALM WARBLERS flitted in a sapling, and 11 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS passed overhead. At this point I met Marc and Larry, and we
proceeded to Occoquan where he highlighted both places. Afterward, I
visited Hunting Creek adjacent to Dyke Marsh, and found a single
BONAPARTE'S GULL, four LAUGHING GULLS, and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL on the
expansive mudflats. Following Dyke, I went to view the PEREGRINE FALCONS at
the Wilson Bridge and found one of them, along with several fellow birders.
Also present here was a flock of 16 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and a BLACK VULTURE.
