My wife and I were birding the CBBT and the refuge at the tip of the 'shore
yesterday. At the refuge we were birding the pond by the creek when there was
a racket next to us where the pond overflows into the marsh. Not more than
eight feet away was a marsh wren and a Virginia rail. Then crossing behind the
Virginia rail was what at first appeared to be a very young juvenile rail until
I realized it was more likely to be a black rail. It crossed the road behind
us and ran along the pond edge. The wren appeared to be following it so it was
easy to track it's movements. I haven't seen a black rail on the shore since
the CBC of either ' 70, ' 71, or ' 72. We also got some nice Ipswichs and
Seasides at Lynhaven inlet.

David West
