This evening (16th) while walking in my neighborhood just before dark I found
what I believe was a Merlin perched high in an oak at the Fairlington
Community Center. I had no binoculars and the light was weak, so I can't be
certain,
but the size and shape were right, and I have seen Merlins at that location
in other winters. The Center is on South Stafford Street in Fairlington
Village, just off Quaker Lane at 33rd Street. The bird was between the
building and
the playground.
