I spent much of the day Sunday, Feb 27 traveling from northern Virginia
to William and Mary and back again for a half marathon. Was hoping to
see first of year wood ducks in the swamps along I 64 or perhaps a FOY
osprey in Williamsburg.
Just about 13 miles through the run, and on the W&M campus, was a
singing pine warbler in a small patch of loblobby pines. That was my
first pine warbler for the year and it was as welcome as the finish line
in making the day a good one.
The only other observation of note was a frenzied flock of 200-300
cedar waxwings mobbing a patch of ornamental holly trees in one of the
shopping mall plantings at Lightfoot.
