While walking in the sleet storm at Long Branch Nature Center in Arlington
today around 4 PM, mostly just checking how much the creek was rising and with
birds not even on my mind in the bad weather, I had a surprise - a bird flew
from a tree trunk nearby and landed on another tree trunk a few feet further
away. For a moment I thought "Brown Creeper" as my first impression was mostly
of
brown, but when I registered white "notch" tail markings and then a lot of
yellow, I realized I was watching a warbler. It proceeded to fly from tree to
tree, largely working up the trunks. I guess it was a Pine Warbler although the
markings just didn't seem exactly right, including the white notch marks
visible from the top side of the tail which almost look Magnolia Warbler-esque.

if anyone cares to take a peek and render another opinion. I was surprised at
the amount of other activity, albeit of less-interesting birds, including
White-throated Sparrows, Carolina Chickadees, Northern Cardinals, Carolina
Wrens,
and a few American Crows calling in the distance. Cheers,
