After enjoying this beautiful morning with Larry Cartwright and Co. at
Occoquan, I thought I would check out Fort Ward for Pine Warblers,
which had eluded me there so far this spring. At last, a gorgeous male
was singing his heart out from a deciduous tree, affording a good look,
before taking off for a pine. (Couldn't find one to save my life at
Leesylvania Park yesterday.)
For those wanting to brush up on their birding by ear skills, three of
the "trillers and chippers" are there right now--many Juncos and
Chipping Sparrows, and at least one Pine Warbler--all chipping and
trilling.
Other highlights: Eastern Phoebe, Brown Creeper, and Field Sparrow.
Fort Ward is near the intersection of Braddock Road and Howard Street,
not far from I-395 in the city of Alexandria.
