There was a single Pine Siskin calling and flying with the goldfinch flock
swarming around our feeder this morning. This is now the latest record I have
of them in the spring here.
I also spotted 2 Solitary Sandpipers chasing each other around one of our ponds
and a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak joined the male who has been here for a few
days. Also saw two male Indigo Buntings which seem to have claimed last years
favored singing perches, so they seem back for the summer. 3 Cerulean Warblers
were calling on the wooded slope below the monastery, as well as some
Yellow-rumps, 3 Black-thr. Green, 4 Black&White, 11 Redstarts, Worm-eating, 8
Ovenbirds, 5 Hooded Warblers, and 3 Scarlet Tanagers. A solitary Raven flew
over several times around mid-day.
