Our Pileated is back...at least the male is!
I was a few mins late getting out of the house this morning as today was
the first morning for our Pileated woodpecker show in the back yard.
For the last few years we have been lucky to have a Pileated pair come
to the suet feeder in the back yard and this year seems to be off to
another good start.
I had seen the male around the last few days, and heard him calling but
today was his first foray to the suet feeder for this season. I'm
hoping to see the female soon.
Nice to have them back. Someday I hope to find their nest hole and
maybe watch for their young to fledge. One year I did see a youngster
above the feeder as Mom tried to demonstrate that suet was good eating -
he/she was none too sure, but I could see he was taking notes :-)
