VA BIRDers,
Good looks at a Philadelphia Vireo were obtained today by Bart Hutchinson,
Ben Jessup and myself at Leeslyvania SP this morning. The migrant wave was
reasonably good for this time of season starting just after dawn and lasting
at least an hour. Other highlights were Least Flycatcher, several Purple
Martins, a good showing of No. Rough-winged Swallows (lots of plumage
variation in these!), HY Tennessee, and a orange female Summer Tanager. It
was a toss-up between E. Wood Pewee and No. Parulas as the most abundant
migrant this morning. A portion of the wave moved down the road and could be
viewed from several locations foraging in the short, Black Locust trees along
the road from the hillside to the trestle. Here's the details of birds of
interest (Ben and Bart took a different path later in the morning and may
have additional comments):

moved south, down the roadway

addenda: as I left home before dawn, the two local Great Horned Owls at
Huntley Meadows were dueting and a Bobolink flew over the park.
