On Sunday AM, 9/22/02 there were two small migrant waves at Great Falls
National Park (Fairfax Cty) which included at least one Philadelphia Vireo,
several Red-Eyed Vireos, Scarlet Tanagers, and seven warbler species
including a male Blackburnian still in breeding plumage.
Until yesterday, the fall migration at Great Falls Park seemed pretty slow,
whereas there have been several good mornings at adjacent Riverbend Park in
the meadow area in the past two weeks.
Due I guess to the continued balmy weather, I have seen the six species of
warblers I reported on 9/14 daily through 9/22 in my yard. They were joined
on 9/15 by an Ovenbird. Also on 9/15, two knowledgeable birders came over
after the Great Falls Park Sunday walk and observed two Ruby-crowned Kinglets
in my yard. I had reported an early sighting of this species on 9/14, but I
have not seen any since.
