I finally heard the doleful song of the Pewee this morning, in the woods behind
the abbey, and was pleased they are back, since they are one of my favourite
birds.
Yesterday afternoon while working on top of the bell tower a Merlin flew by, at
eye-level and only about 100 feet away. It circled a couple of times, while I
was able to get my binoculars on it, and then flew off heading due north.
Several days ago a D.C. Cormorant landed on our upper pond, paddled around for
a couple of hours, and then flew off up the Blue Ridge.
