At 1141 today, as I was returning to my office with lunch, an adult
Peregrine flew around the 11- to12- story buildings in Crystal City just
to the east of the Crystal City Metrorail above-ground entrance (beside
the intersection of 18th Street and Crystal Drive) and at times within
75 yards or less of where I was walking. There were also Rock Pig
(eons) flying relatively unconcernedly around nearby so I suppose the
Peregrine was not hungry at that moment. A number of these buildings
have precast stone ledges outside the windows and I had the feeling that
the Peregrine was interested in perching on one of them...but this did
not occur within my sight. Further location information is that this
area is west of the northern part of Washington National Airport (I
refuse to add "Reagan" to this...never have been willing to). This is
the second Peregrine I've seen here in about 13-14 years. The first was
a brown bird that was engaged in incredible high-speed chases of Rock
Pigs around nearby buildings. Man, can those Pigs fly when a Peregrine
is after them! I'd previously had no idea they could fly that fast.
